“Rockin’ in Quartzsite!”
A Celebration of the Arts – Quartzsite Style

Quartzsite, AZ –Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite (PNQ) invites the world to a most unique Public Art Event, called “Rockin’ in Quartzsite! A Celebration of the Arts”. Sixteen artists transformed simple boulders into one-of-a-kind “Boulder Art Pieces”. These “Boulder Art Pieces”, sponsored by local businesses, are the first of its kind Public Art Event to be held in Quartzsite. The “Boulder Art Pieces” are now on display throughout town through March 1, 2010.

The kick off event was held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, National Make A Difference Day, when the public had a chance to have fun with “rocks”. Two Walk-a-thons culminated at the “Rock Motel” (a transformed warehouse) where the boulders were placed on their “beds” to be painted. Rock Games, Rock Painting, Rock Candy, and Rock Music, along with watching the artists paint, provided for a fun-filled day.

Artists continued painting for the next three weeks. On Sat. November 14, 2009, the completed “Boulder Art Pieces” were unveiled during the Artists’ Reception, when the public got a “Sneak Preview” of the boulders before they hit the town. On Saturday, March 6, PNQ holds a “Rock Auction” to find permanent homes for the “Boulder Art Pieces” and the People’s Choice Award will be announced.

Quartzsite is known worldwide for its rocks and shows. On Dec. 8, 2009, “Acting Mayor” Wes Huntley, proclaimed Quartzsite, Arizona, the Rock Capital of the World. Expanding on this popular theme, locals and visitors alike will find themselves looking for the Boulder Art Pieces throughout town, using a “Rockin’ in Quartzsite Map” bringing folks from one end of town to the other. At each location, people can vote for their favorite boulder for the People’s Choice Award! This event benefits local organizations, businesses, and the Quartzsite community! Come to the Rock Capital of the World and see what’s going on!
