Spelling Champ

Mohave County has a new spelling champ. Mikkaela Salamatin finished first among 33 contestants entered in the annual spelling bee conducted January 29.

Salamatin, an eighth grader at the Young Scholars Academy in Bullhead City, correctly spelled "didactic" and "odyssey" for the 2010 spelling title. Runner up Sierra McDonald, an eighth grader at Thunderbolt Jr. High school in Lake Havasu City, faltered when she misspelled "amenable."

Salamatin will represent the county in the state championship spelling bee March 26th in Phoenix.
