On Saturday, February 20th, the Police Explorers are bringing in some former NFL players from teams like the Cowboys, Chargers, Cardinals, Redskins, Bengals and Bills to play a benefit basketball game.
The game will raise money for equipment and help with travel expenses for the Explorers to attend statewide competitions and academies. There is a national competition held in January in Chandler, AZ. Because this is a national competition, the entry fees alone can be expensive. Later in the year, Lake Havasu will host it 3rd annual Explorer Academy. This is where the Explorers learn the various aspects of law enforcement with training in Forensics, Weapon Handling, Evidence Gathering, etc. There will be two academies held in 2010 - one in Lake Havasu City and the other in Prescott. These young people take pride in representing our community at these functions and are very dedicated. The Academy will bring in other Explorer Posts throughout the state and will help with our local economy.
You may recognize the Explorers by their public services. This is a chance for the Explorers to get out in public and interact with the community. Events range from crowd control at parades, to providing security and police presence at events like fairs and sporting events, and directing traffic during mass traffic floods; such as those following sporting and other civic events.
