False Alarm

A report of five people wounded by sniper fire outside Lake Havasu City Thursday turned out to be a false alarm. Because they could get their more quickly, Lake Havasu City police officers responded to the scene south of the City after the call came in, securing the area while waiting for deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said 56 year-old Gregory Marvin Bergstrom falsely reported that five people had been wounded by high powered rifle fire about 8:30 a.m. Bergstrom was banging on the door of a neighbor's home in the 4000 block of East Gold Springs Road when police arrived.

Carter said Bergstrom retreated into his home and eventually came out and surrendered. He was taken into custody for false reporting, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Carter said said deputies were concerned that mental health issues might have caused the outburst.
