A Utah pilot and his passenger walked away safely after an emergency landing on the bed of a dry lake north of Kingman late Thursday afternoon. Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District Chief Pat Moore said the six seat 2007 Piper Saratoga touched down about 5:00 p.m. at Red Lake, some 30 miles north of Kingman.
``The plane from Utah was enroute to the Kingman Airport when a fuel leak and loss of fuel pressure occurred," Moore said in a news release. ``The pilot and passenger were uninjured in the landing and escaped the aircraft. The plane was completely destroyed by the ensuing fire."
Personnel from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, American Medical Response Ambulance and the Bureau of Indian Affairs assisted the fire department. The NTSB was notified of the incident for follow up investigation.
